South African Bloggers badge/widget

South African Bloggers

A couple of weeks ago I created a group on Facebook to try and gather South African bloggers into one place. Nothing serious, just a place where bloggers can share their blog posts and where people can get to meet each other.

It’s grown quite a bit since I started it and I thought I’d create a blog badge for those who wanted to share the community with their readers.

You can check out the group here: South African Bloggers

The Proposal Party

If you didn’t know, Daniel and I have been dating for 6 years now. We started dating when I was a wee 17 years old.

After a long time of hinting requesting a date for when the big question would be asked (because we had agreed it would be happening at some point…), it finally happened!

Just out of the blue, under the guise of a family braai, I walked into my aunt’s house and got a big surprise. I, however, first ignored said surprise because I really wasn’t expecting anything!

Here’s the video evidence. (Yes, there was much shaking and crying – happily)

THE BOARDS I’M READING SAY:

1) Don’t ask any questions… Just read. :)

2) Behind me is a row of people – each one also holding a sheet. All you need to do (for now) is read each one OUT LOUD!

3) 6 years ago

4) I thought you made me the happiest man in the world…

5) 6 years on…

6) And my heart still pounds when I think about how much I love you!

7) And I’ve come to realise

8) There is only one way that I can be happier…

The boards I had to read out loud were a speech that Daniel had written. It was so sweet and romantic, just like the man himself. I couldn’t be happier with the proposal and the entire day.

Engaged!
Engaged!
The ring
The ring – Tanzanite – EXACTLY what I wanted!

More than anything, the huge amount of tweets, Facebook messages and Instagram comments that Danny and I received to congratulate us was amazing! We really felt the love. Thank you, everyone!

And again, to my family and loved ones that made the day so amazing and special – Thank you. You all mean the world to me!

Now for the planning! Warp speed ahead! (But not too fast, weddings are expensive.)

The Internet: The musical

I love the internet, I mean, who doesn’t? I also love music and musicals. I also love and hate internet trends. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr – all of it. They are the worst and the best things about the internet.

The funny and clever people at AVbyte! on YouTube create really good musicals every week. They’re funny and the performers are good!

Seeing as I’m an Instagram addict, I loved this one.

Then there’s Tumblr. It’s a crazy place filled with, well, just watch this musical by AVbyte! and VlogBrothers.

They have a load more and they’re all hilarious, so enjoy!

Also, I’m very cool and now have my own domain. And what do you think of my blog? It’s still a work in progress but I’m trying! (I will conquer you, CSS!)

Oh and a HUGE thanks to André who helped me set up my new blog and who is just plain awesome and clever. Much love to you!

Bye!

What is ‘Upcycle That’?

Genius Bottle Wall - Upcycle That
Genius Bottle Wall

Have you guys heard of Upcycle That? It’s a great website that gathers together some of  the coolest ideas for taking your old stuff and making it into something awesome.

According to the website, this what upcycling is all about – “It’s taking something that you would otherwise throw out and finding a way to make it into something else.”

Here are a few of my favourite “Upcycles”:

These guys are amazing and it’s an eye opener as to what can be done with the things you have in your own right now.

Check them out. They deserve some love.

Like Upcycle That on Facebook, follow them on Twitter and they’re on Pinterest too!

“Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus”

This young guy wrote this poem explaining just how different Jesus and Religion really are. THIS is what I believe in. THIS is what I do each time I’m going to a “church meeting”. This dude has the right idea.

To Jefferson Bethke – I say thank you!

If you don’t want to watch the video below, at the very least please read the poem:

What if I told you, Jesus came to abolish religion?
What if I told you getting you to vote republican, really wasn’t his mission?
Because republican doesn’t automatically mean Christian,
And just because you call some people blind, doesn’t automatically give you vision.
If religion is so great, why has it started so many wars?
Why does it build huge churches, but fails to feed the poor?
Tells single moms God doesn’t love them if they’ve ever been divorced
Yet God in the Old Testament actually calls the religious people whores
Religion preaches grace, but another thing they practice,
Tend to ridicule Gods people, they did it to John the Baptist,
Cant fix their problems, so they try to mask it,
Not realizing that’s just like sprayin perfume on a casket
Because the problem with religion is that it never gets to the core,
It’s just behavior modification, like a long list of chores.
Let’s dress up the outside, make things look nice and neat,
Its funny that’s what they do to mummies, while the corpse rots underneath,
Now I ain’t judging I’m just saying be careful of putting on a fake look,
Because there’s a problem if people only know that you’re a Christian by that little section on your facebook
In every other aspect of life you know that logics unworthy
Its like saying you play for the lakers just because you bought a jersey
But see I played this game too; no one seemed to be on to me,
I was acting like church kid, while addicted to pornography.
I’d go to church on Sunday, but on saturday getting faded,
Acting as if I was simply created to have sex and get wasted.
Spend my whole life putting on this façade of neatness,
But now that I know Jesus, I boast in my weakness.
If grace is water, then the church should be an ocean,
Cuz its not a museum for good people, it’s a hospital for the broken
I no longer have to hide my failures I don’t have to hide my sin,
Because my salvation doesn’t depend on me, it depends on him.
because when I was Gods enemy and certainly not a fan,
God looked down on me and said, “I want that man!”
Which is so different from religious people, and why Jesus called em fools
Don’t you see hes so much better than just following some rules?
Now let me clarify, I love the church, I love the bible, and I believe in sin
But my question, is if Jesus were here today, would your church let Him in?
Remember He was called a drunkard and a glutton by “religious men”
The Son of God not supported self-righteousness, not now, not then.

Now back to the topic, one thing I think is vital to mention,
How Jesus and religion are on opposite spectrums,
One is the work of God one is a man made invention,
One is the cure and one is the infection.
Because Religion says do, Jesus says done.
Religion says slave, Jesus says son,
Religion puts you in shackles but Jesus sets you free.
Religion makes you blind, but Jesus lets you see.

This is what makes religion and Jesus two different clans,
Religion is man searching for God, but Christianity is God searching for man.
Which is why salvation is freely mine, forgiveness is my own,
Not based on my efforts, but Christ’s obedience alone.
Because he took the crown of thorns, and blood that dripped down his face
He took what we all deserved, that’s why we call it grace.
While being murdered he yelled “father forgive them, they know not what they do”,
Because when he was dangling on that cross, he was thinking of you
He paid for all your sin, and then buried it in the tomb,
Which is why im kneeling at the cross now saying come on there’s room
So know I hate religion, in fact I literally resent it,
Because when Jesus cried It is finished, I believe He meant it.
