How to deal with Internet trolls

As a well-mannered human being who spends a LOT of time on the Internet, I have come across many a troll.

YouTube, Twitter, News24 comments sections: They’re everywhere.

They lurk in the dark corners of the Internet attacking perfectly nice people and ruining days wherever they go. It’s sad.

I recently watched a popular YouTube vlogger family and unfortunately read the comments. This particular family has a 12-year-old son in it (including other younger kids) and I know that they read the comments on their family videos.

This particular troll decided to attack the son (who is a little overweight) by pointing out that he didn’t want to see the “fat son with his crooked teeth and manboobs”. My first, natural instinct was to defend the poor boy and I got really mad. But no, that wouldn’t help. Trolls just feed like a smelly fungus on the backlash they so crave.

The Proposal Party

If you didn’t know, Daniel and I have been dating for 6 years now. We started dating when I was a wee 17 years old.

After a long time of hinting requesting a date for when the big question would be asked (because we had agreed it would be happening at some point…), it finally happened!

Just out of the blue, under the guise of a family braai, I walked into my aunt’s house and got a big surprise. I, however, first ignored said surprise because I really wasn’t expecting anything!

Here’s the video evidence. (Yes, there was much shaking and crying – happily)

THE BOARDS I’M READING SAY:

1) Don’t ask any questions… Just read. :)

2) Behind me is a row of people – each one also holding a sheet. All you need to do (for now) is read each one OUT LOUD!

3) 6 years ago

4) I thought you made me the happiest man in the world…

5) 6 years on…

6) And my heart still pounds when I think about how much I love you!

7) And I’ve come to realise

8) There is only one way that I can be happier…

The boards I had to read out loud were a speech that Daniel had written. It was so sweet and romantic, just like the man himself. I couldn’t be happier with the proposal and the entire day.

Engaged!
Engaged!
The ring
The ring – Tanzanite – EXACTLY what I wanted!

More than anything, the huge amount of tweets, Facebook messages and Instagram comments that Danny and I received to congratulate us was amazing! We really felt the love. Thank you, everyone!

And again, to my family and loved ones that made the day so amazing and special – Thank you. You all mean the world to me!

Now for the planning! Warp speed ahead! (But not too fast, weddings are expensive.)

The Internet: The musical

I love the internet, I mean, who doesn’t? I also love music and musicals. I also love and hate internet trends. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr – all of it. They are the worst and the best things about the internet.

The funny and clever people at AVbyte! on YouTube create really good musicals every week. They’re funny and the performers are good!

Seeing as I’m an Instagram addict, I loved this one.

Then there’s Tumblr. It’s a crazy place filled with, well, just watch this musical by AVbyte! and VlogBrothers.

They have a load more and they’re all hilarious, so enjoy!

Also, I’m very cool and now have my own domain. And what do you think of my blog? It’s still a work in progress but I’m trying! (I will conquer you, CSS!)

Oh and a HUGE thanks to André who helped me set up my new blog and who is just plain awesome and clever. Much love to you!

Bye!

A baby turtle munches a raspberry

If you’re needing something cute to make your day then this would be it. I just love how chill this teeny tiny baby turtle is. I’m sure there’s some deep lesson we could all learn from this little guy. For now though just watch the cuteness.

Also, his name is Peanut. *So cute!*

You’re welcome.

Everybody hurts…

There’s been a lot of pain in the lives of the people I love lately.

Loss, fighting, heartache, uncertainty. In all honesty, it sucks.

I cried more in this week than I have my entire life. Puffy face much? Yup.

For someone who pretty much feeds off of other people’s emotions, it’s not easy having the people you truly love trying to mend their broken hearts around you.

Even worse is that I can’t fix it. There’s nothing I can do but hold my best friend’s hand and pray that the pain comes to a swift end.

I guess love and a hug when they need it is the only way to keep going forward.

Also, this song is stuck in my head… Your turn for an earworm!

Love and happy thoughts,
